Coral assemblages of the Serpukhovian–Bashkirian transition from Adarouch (Morocco)

Abstract The Carboniferous outcrops from Adarouch (central Morocco) are composed of siliciclastic and carbonate rocks, the latter have yielded abundant fossils. upper part marine succession in Idmarrach Formation its laterally equivalent Tirhela belong to Bashkirian. More recent investigations poorly preserved coral assemblages 2 section here described. assemblage comprises several typical Mississippian taxa, such as Aulophyllum fungites , Dibunophyllum bipartitum Koninckophyllum interruptum, Siphonodendron scaleberense Lithostrotion decipiens, some highly evolved forms previously undescribed genera Haplolasma sp., Arachnolasma Diphyphyllum Solenodendron Clisiophyllum sp. a new species Corwenia tirhelensis nov. In addition, an undetermined petalaxid has been also recorded. Similarly, near top regarded usually Mississippian, Palaeosmilia murchisoni decipiens . We identified long-ranging tabulate Syringopora nov., single fasciculate rugosan, tindoufense, described Bashkirian rocks Tindouf Basin (southern Morocco). presence taxon both sections implies communication between region Saharan basins. occurrence S. tindoufense at approximately same stratigraphic level Tindouf, Taoudenni, Reggan-Ahnet Adarouch, demonstrates important regional value North Africa.
